Staff training includes programs that enable employees to learn skills or acquire knowledge to improve job performance and are critical to the success of the organization. These programs not only provide opportunities for employees to improve their skills, but also employers to improve employee productivity and develop corporate culture.


Staff development is an ongoing effort to strengthen work performance through methods such as training, training sessions, and leadership counseling. Training is a specific event that teaches new information or skills, often offered to new or newly promoted employees. The sudden onset of the global health problem of COVID-19 has disrupted the operations of companies around the world. One of the most affected workplaces has been the staff learning and the development.   1. Well bashitha! I am interested on your topic. The E-learing or the onilne learnig was not a new thing in pricate sector in SL over last decade. H/E this pandemice has influenced and highlighted the factor to standalone as the utmost solution for the mobility constraints. I agree with your argement that saying this plat form should be further developed and utlized for the well being of the emplyees as well as the employers. However, i was not able to hide my ideas about drawbacks in this process. This online training process can not be applied very practically for the manufacturing sector, hence the inprovement of manufacturing and value adding sector may be slow down. And the important thing is rights of enployees and independence in the peson has been threaten up to some extent. Most of the employers forcing their employees to take online learning which can not be bear by some of the employees. And some workers have to work/ traing beyond the workinh hours. As you mentioned above if the employers want to really sharp up the real importance of the process they must think and treat their emplyees fairly and equally , i suppose.

  2. Well written Basitha. Very interesting topic. It becomes difficult to give judgement whether online training is a boon or bane. But with the current situation I agree we must go with this. So to make it more effective HRM must come up with strategies to reduce disadvantages associated with it such as poor communication, lack of motivation, lack of quality etc. Thankyou for sharing.

  4. Though it is hard sometimes, online training has become the only possible way of learning in the current prevailing situation. But it is very convenient and flexible in many ways also. HRM must involve in reducing the drawbacks of online training as you have described. I feel that it is a timely topic you chose.

  6. Excellent Bashitha, on my personal experience of my organisation gives us online training through e learning for last 5 years even before the pandemic. However the importance of online training and development increases vastly in new normal. Nowadays we used to the same and benefited.

Online training will Helps employees to work life balance. As a banker I personally know the hassle outstation branch staff faces when they have to attend a trainings in head office in weekends
